Find out how to create and use flyers and leaflets
Flyers and leaflets are the portable, powerful way to get your message out there.
You can impress potential clients or introduce your business to people on the street, flyers and folded leaflets help you get noticed – and to stay top-of-mind.
They are an easy way to spread your message about new menus, products and services, to create a buzz around sales or events and target specific audiences.
Flyers and leaflets can be used as handouts, delivered through letter boxes, giveaways at events or used as a presentation tool.
Flyers
Are usually single sheets of unfolded paper usually A4, A5 or A6 in size.
Flyers are a great way to get a quick message across to anyone. They work best when they’re focused on 1 or 2 simple concepts or big ideas. They are easy to pack up, bundle and hand out in crowds or hand deliver. They are well-suited to street marketing activities like promoting a seasonal sale or event, or drumming up interest for your shop opening.
Leaflets
Are usually single sheets of paper usually A4 or A5 in size, either folder once or two times – there are lots of options but these are most common.
Folded leaflets are a good option for presentations or targeted audiences, with more space to explain what your business is all about. The extra space makes it easier to organise information into sections so your customers can easily find what they’re looking for. They are great for handing out and perfect for displaying in a stand or on a table in high-traffic areas like reception desks, shopfronts or on your table at a fayre.
Things to consider when thinking about using flyers and leaflets
Choose an appropriate paper stock – glossy paper tends to display photos better, if you use recycles paper these can usually be written on on the back – if that is something you do often
Choose an appropriate a paper weight – the thicker the paper the better the ‘feel’- printing it yourself on 80 gram photocopy paper maybe OK – but does it give the right impression?
Creating an eye-catching design – you’ve only got a few seconds to grab their attention – use big headlines – maybe include a voucher or coupon in the design
Make sure to hand out your flyers to the relevant audience and at relevant events and spots
Use smaller sizes for handouts and larger sizes for hanging or displaying
Make sure you have one clear call to action and include all your contact and social media details – big and bold
Flyers and leaflets are a relatively cheap form of marketing but they do not work for all types of businesses – try a few to start with to see if they are effective for you before ordering 20,000 to be printed.
Remember your sales message, prices or contact details may change – putting those outdated flyers in the recycling is not the best way to use them!
